Main Features of Export Credit Cover

Federal export credit guarantees support German enterprises in their efforts to open difficult markets and expand traditional markets in unfavourable times. By taking out Federal guarantees, German exporters and banks protect themselves from the country and buyer risks involved in export transactions. Guidelines ensure that a globally responsible approach is taken.

Covered Risks

For each export transaction there is an adequate type of cover which takes into account the specific needs of the respective transaction. Before submitting an application for an export credit guarantee, companies are therefore advised to gather information as to what type of policy is the most suitable cover solution for the export contract in question (supply and/or services contract), and what risks should be covered.

Types of cover

The types of cover available are as manifold as the export transactions themselves.

Application Procedure

The application to Euler Hermes Kreditversicherungs-AG for an export guarantee should be made wherever possible before the export contract has been finally concluded. One of the crucial aspects in obtaining cover is appropriate payments conditions.

Environmental Aspects

The analysis of a project's eligibility for cover within the scope of a standardized procedure includes social, ecological and developmental aspects.

Project information

As provided in the Guiding Priniples for the Consideration of ecological, social and developmental aspects, by publishing certain project data the Federal Government aims at promoting more transparency of officially supported export credits.

Advisory Service for SMEs

One of the focal points of the Federal Government's activities is the promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Special advice is given to SMEs on the availability of Federal Guarantees to strengthen their global competitive position.

International Cooperation

In order to create a level playing field in international competition and to harmonize procedures, the state export credit agencies cooperate closely in the various committees.
