International co-operation
PricewaterhouseCoopers Aktiengesellschaft Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft
(PwC) is a member of the
Berner
Union, an association founded in 1934 of all government-backed
export credit and investment insurers. Meanwhile this association
has also been opened for private insurers.
The Berne Union has made it its business to develop standards regarding a sound structure of export credit and investment insurance schemes. At the same time, the Berne Union is a platform for a permanent exchange of information and experience among insurers on current events and developments, the investment climate in individual countries, public relations activities, the extension of cover and cover techniques.
Under the
Berne
Union Value Statement adopted in October 2004 the members have
committed themselves to perform their tasks in connection with the
promotion of exports and foreign investments in a professional manner
that demonstrates high ethical values and is financially responsible
as well as respectful of the environment. In addition to this basic
commitment,
Guiding
Principles were adopted in October 2008; they set out in writing
the Berne Union's self-conception in general guidelines for the
activities of its members.
The Berne Union regularly publishes
up-to-date
statistics, showing the countries for which the members granted
guarantees against political risks of foreign investments as well
as the countries where events of loss occurred.
Larger projects, especially infrastructure investments in the form of operating models, are increasingly realized on the basis of international co-operations. Foreign investors and lenders make use of their own national guarantee schemes. A co-operation of the various institutions therefore is a reasonable and necessary precondition for realizing projects and acting jointly in critical situations.
