Construction of two gas and steam power stations in Oman

An international consortium of sponsors plans to construct two gas and steam power stations with a capacity of about 740 MW each. The sites of power stations are located near Sohar (Shar 2 and Barka 3) on the Batinah coast, Oman. They are to meet the increasing energy demand in Oman.

Development of the Narrabi coal mine, Australia

Whitehaven Coal Limited plans to develop the Narrabi coal mine in the Australian federal state of New South Wales with a capacity of 6.5 million tons of low-sulphur coal annually. The project site of the underground mine is located 30 km southeast of Narrabi, 380 km away from Port Newcastle in the Australian federal state of New South Wales and covers an area of 5910 hectares.

Motorway from Milan to Naples

Toto Construzioni Generali S.P.A. will improve and widen a 63 km long section of the existing motorway A 1 from Milan to Naples. The stretch of the A 1 to be improved and widened is in the north between Bologna and Florence (Project: “Variante di Valico”). The project aims to relieve traffic congestion on this main artery. Sintering plant, South Africa

Kalagadi Manganese (Pty) Ltd. and Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa Ltd. plan to build a sintering plant on the site of the “Umtu” manganese ore mine which is currently under construction in the Kalahari Desert (sandy desert) in the Northern Cape Province in South Africa about 60 km southwest of the town Kuruman. The manganese ore mine’s output is stated at 3 million tons annually (ore and impurities) and 100 % of it will be processed in the sintering plant.

Construction of a sodium cyanide production plant, Russia

OOO Korund plans to construct a sodium cyanide (NaCN) production plant in Dzerzhinsk in the Nizhny Novogrod region, Russia, with an annual capacity of 40,000 tons. The plant will be built on an existing industrial estate and will replace an old plant which was shut down for safety and ecological reasons.

Combined cycle power station, Turkey

RWE & Turcas Güney Elektrik A.S. plans to construct a 800 MW combined cycle power plant in Denizli in the southwest of Turkey. The fuel to be used is natural gas. The power plant will have two 268 MW gas turbines and one 264 MW steam turbine. The project contributes to stabilizing the power supply in Turkey and to adjusting to the needs resulting from the expected economic growth.

Combined cycle power station, Korea

POSCO Power Corporation (POSCO) plans to extend the power plant at Incheon/Korea by two additional generating units (no. 5 and no. 6) with a rated capacity of 625 MW each. The new generating units are designed as combined cycle power stations and the fuel to be used is liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Third reactor block at Angra dos Reis, Brazil

Eletronuclear Termonuclear S.A. operates the plant Central Nuclear Almirante Alvaro Alberto (CNAA) with the two blocks Angra 1 and Angra 2 at Angra dos Reis in the federal state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Now the third reactor block Angra 3 will be completed. The pressurized water reactor’s gross output will be 1,350 MW.

Potassium mine in the Volgograd Oblast region, Russia

EuroChem-VolgaKaliy plans to open up a potassium mine and to construct a plant for the production of mineral fertilizer in the Volgograd Oblast region. The mine’s capacity, which will have a depth of more than 1100 m, is to reach about 7 million tons of ore during the first phase until 2013 and there exists the option to double the capacity during a second phase (2020). The production capacity for potassium chloride, which is used as fertilizer, will amount to 2.3 million tons annually in phase 1 and 4.6 million tons annually in phase 2.
