Sustainability

Preserving prosperity and quality of life for present and future generations is a major political challenge. The vision to be put into practice is sustainable development: Every generation must solve its problems rather than leaving them on to the next generation.

In 1992 the United Nations declared its commitment to the vision of sustainable development by adopting a global action programme in Rio de Janeiro. In "Agenda 21" each of the over 170 signatory states - including Germany - declared its intention to translate into practice the vision of sustainable development across the entire political spectrum, with the participation of civil society and industry. (National Sustainability Strategy of the Federal Government)

The Federal Government endeavours to contribute to sustainable global development through its Export Credit Guarantee scheme, too, by supporting socially and ecologically sustainable projects abroad. Apart from the positive economic effects an export transaction has on the domestic economy (e.g. safeguarding jobs in Germany, supporting small and medium-sized companies as well as strengthening the technological centre Germany) ecological, social and developmental effects of the transaction offered for cover are therefore also taken into account as important aspects in connection with the eligibility of a transaction for support.
